Every African market, one map.

No continent-wide, standardized EV dataset exists today — that's the gap EV Mobility Africa is built to close. Select a country to see what we currently know about its EV penetration, and how confident that data is.

Methodology & Data Limitations

Why so much of this map says "not tracked."

No single registry

Unlike Europe, the US, or China, there is no authoritative body tracking new-vehicle EV sales share across all 54 African countries. Figures here are compiled from the best publicly available sources as of July 2026 — IEA, CSIS, Mordor Intelligence, EV24.africa, and the Africa E-Mobility Report — and are not uniformly measured. Some are % of new car sales, others % of fleet stock, others qualitative assessments only.

Used imports distort the picture

Around 60% of Africa's annual vehicle additions are imported used cars. New-registration data alone is an unreliable proxy for real adoption in many markets — a used ICE import boom can mask underlying EV sales-share trends entirely.

"No data" isn't "no activity"

Countries marked "not tracked" simply means no reliable penetration figure could be located in current public reporting. Two- and three-wheelers are frequently the leading edge of adoption in these markets and are routinely undercounted in passenger-car statistics.

This gap is itself the opportunity: EV Mobility Africa is building a proprietary, continuously updated country-level tracker as a flagship data product for the platform.
